New herpes treatment strategy described by researchers

A novel treatment approach for persistent viral infections such as herpes has been described by researchers. Using animal models of herpes simplex virus infection, researchers show that blocking the activity of a host cell protein called LSD1 reduces herpes infection, shedding and recurrence.

Uganda: Truckers Still Driving the HIV Pandemic

While the nationwide battle to reduce HIV rates continues, it has been revealed that knowledge on HIV does not always translate into safer sexual behaviour for the most-at-risk populations (MARPs). This is noted in a recently released KMCC abridged report titled; 'Long-distance truck drivers and HIV/Aids in Uganda: synthesis of information and evidence to inform response.' The report states that although majority of long- distance truck drivers are aware that engaging in unprotected sex and having multiple sexual partners increases the risk of acquiring HIV, safe sex is largely inconsistent.

Porn production moratorium ended by Free Speech Coalition

A California-based trade group for the adult film industry has lifted a moratorium on production spurred by a feared HIV exposure on an out-of-state film set. The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) ended the five-day production hold Monday, saying in a statement that testing has been completed and 'the performer pool has not been compromised.' The group first called for a three-day moratorium that was extended through lastweekend.
